Affinity Designer offers the essential tools you need when working with layers, such as locking and hiding elements or layer groups for easier handling. Showing preview icons makes selecting elements via the layers panel easy. The layer panel underneath is very user-friendly.

To the right you have your colour panel (with the HSL colour wheel as preset but more schemes to pick from), swatches to help you organize frequently used colours, strokes to define the outlines and brush settings. The amount can be quickly altered by dragging a marker or by entering a value. It offers 5 different shapes from plain to rounded and rounded inverse to steps. Features:Īnother nice feature is the corner tool allowing easy modifying of the corners of a node. The background illustration matches the desired proportions and sizes from the start.

It’s a very helpful feature when designing a full-screen layout. I may be willing to dump my Windows laptops.I really liked the canvas setting as it offered a choice of device-specific settings such as iPad, iPad pro or iPhone 6. Definitely the future–can’t wait to see this app come to the iPad. Oh, and the fact that all three apps actually share the same file format just makes it all work. One thing I love, love, love is the personas feature, where you can select an image, click on the Photo persona, and now have the Photos app active within Publisher, and visa versa, etc. It’s vastly improved over the early beta I tried months ago, and over InDesign (things somehow seem more logically organized, and even when more “esoteric” –optical alignment, for instance–still don’t feel overwhelming.

OK, this one isn’t so “essential” in a manner of speaking, but man, the ability to create separate documents per chapter (which is actually how my wife writes her books), and have them all separate, and only opening one at a time–that is just too much for me to give up to “sections”īut other than those things, I’m really loving the interface. Honestly, I know InDesign took forever, but this is an essential item, IMO.Ģ. 😉Īnd it has two problems for me that will keep it from being my only publishing tool, and dumping Adobe CCġ. I’ve been playing with it since the moment the download went live.
